Modern and Bright Vintage Vanity Makeover
I honestly believe modern and bright is the perfect description of the outcome of this dated vanity and bench.
I posted about it last week (How-To Thursday) and here is the finished result!
And, this is where the vanity and bench began.
This is a commission piece. Mary Ellen has had this vanity for decades and is now handing it down to her daughter. She decided on bright white to give the piece a more modern and bright look that will fit better into her daughter’s home. We decided on the Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint in the color, Cotton. This is a true, bright and clean white and wow, it really did transform this piece!
I added gold gilding wax to the original hardware, plus new liner paper in the drawers. Inside, I applied a transfer from Dixie Belle called Lace. All of these steps are detailed in the video clip below. After applying the paint, I lightly distressed and sealed it with clear wax. Done!
The little bench was painted in Cotton, sealed with wax and then reupholstered in a blue chenille fabric that I had. What a difference!
In case you missed last week’s post where I waxed the piece and added the transfer and gold gilding wax, you can see it all in the video below.

I’m taking my youngest daughter, Sophie, to Boston over the long weekend to look at schools. She is a rising HS Senior. I honestly cannot believe it! I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
